Society's Annual General Meeting by ahsk.ca
In keeping with the Architectural Heritage Society's policy of moving its annual general meeting to a different community each year, the AGM will be held in North Battleford this year. It is set for 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 31, 2012 at the Gold Eagle Lodge, 12004 Railway Avenue East. Anyone interested may attend.

Foundation Seeks Public Input by ahsk.ca
The report from consultants following strategic review of the Saskatchewan Heritage Foundation has been posted on the web to attract public comment. The review was announced last March at the time of the provincial budget to help government and the Foundation's Board of Directors plan future directions. One goal was to broaden the vision of SHF to support a wider range of heritage, in addtion to built heritage like natural and cultural heritage initiatves, including languages and landscapes. Modelling Saskatchewan's Built Heritage by ahsk.ca
Thanks to volunteers in Saskatchewan and from as far away as Ontario, Newfoundland and Australia, several hundred heritage buildings now appear on Google Earth. Modelling Project coordinator, Gregg Babish, avocetgeo@gmail.com hopes that other people will consider learning to model and post buildings. It is not difficult to do. The Society supports this project because it represents another way in which our province's built heritage can be demonstrated and preserved. That's our job. There were over 3,000 grain elevators in Saskatchewan in 1930. By 2004, there were less than 200. Why not work to preserve this important part of our history. Modeller Julio Signorelli has posted more that 300 buildings in Saskatchewan communities on Google Earth. Heritage Week in Saskatchewan by ahsk.ca
The Government of Saskatchewan has proclaimed February 20 to 26, 2012 as Heritage Week in the province. For the Architectural Heritage Society of Saskatchewan this week provides the opportunity for everyone to recognize the province's unique and rich built heritage. There are over 800 heritage properties in Saskatchewan, designated by the various levels of government. Re-use of Heritage Properties Proves Viable, Again by ahsk.ca
Two Saskatoon property developers hope to restore for re-use a piece of rural Saskatchewan heritage by returning Rosthern's historic Imperial Bank of Canada Building into apartments and commerical space. Saskatchewan Heritage Foundation Grants by ahsk.ca
The Saskatchewan Heritage Foundation continues to work with communities and organizations to preserve the province's architectural heritage and maintain its cultural treasures. Saskatchewan Heritage Foundation has announced the results of its second and final grant adjudication for the 2011-2012 fiscal year. A total of 31 proposals were reviewed and $128,875 was allocated to 19 initiatives. Individual grants ranged from $775 for an archaeological research project to analyze artifacts obtained from the Camp Rayner site, near Outlook, to $20,000 to help preserve the former St. Walburg Roman Catholic Church, now used as a community museum.

3D Models of Our Built Heritage by ahsk.ca
The Architectural Heritage Society has begun 3D modelling Saskatchewan's built heritage in Google Earth. It is a huge goal but the Society wants to model and map the over 800 historic buildings and sites designated thus far in the province by the various levels of government. Anyone who would like to participate in this project by modelling structures or providing the necessary photo images of local assets may contact the project coordinator as "AvocetGeo" at the following link. New Life for Moose Jaw's Historic Natatorium? by ahsk.ca
According to discovermoosejaw.com, the City of Moose Jaw's Heritage Advisory Committee wants to see something done with the historic Natatorium. The Committee has decided to host an public open house February 11th for persons interested in sharing their ideas. AHSS Director Brian Bell sits on the committee and says they are hoping a tour of the inside will get the wheels turning. The Phyllis Dewer pool indoors at the Natatorium has been closed for years. The Department of History in Art and the Division of Continuing Studies are pleased to announce that we have launched the Graduate Professional Certificate (GPC) in Cultural Heritage Studies and the Graduate Professional Diploma (GDP) in Cultural Heritage Management. These programs are designed to provide advanced learning opportunities for individuals involved with and dedicated to cultural heritage, museum studies, and heritage conservation. The courses will be delivered in an online format, allowing participants to balance their coursework with their professional practice or as a complement to graduate degree programs. Main Street Saskatchewan Communities Announced by ahsk.ca
The Government of Saskatchewan today announced that Wolseley, Indian Head, Maple Creek and Prince Albert were selected to participate this year in the Main Street Saskatchewan demonstration program. These communities were selected from among 18 applicants for funding due to their readiness, capacity, support, existing historic buildings, and potential for growth. The government announced April 13th a $1.65 million investment over three years to provide funding assistance to four communities that would introduce this approach to downtown revitalization. This complements the province's cultural planning initiative for municipalites and communities and represents one way the Province is implementing its new cultural policy Pride of Saskatchewan, which, in part, calls for supporting heritage stewardship.
